Motivational CD seeks to make children happy, responsible

It was a CD release party just a like major recording artists have. There was food, laughter and, of course, a playing of the finished product. Eight children from Torn Hill Education Center's after-school program recently lent their voices to background vocals on motivational CD for kids. On Tuesday they heard their work the first time.

"It was really fun," said Mckenna Boyd. Mckenna, a fourth grader at Hearn Elementary, said she liked the songs immediately upon hearing them. "They're songs that tell you something," she said. They're encouraging songs." R.G. Graham, founder of Boomer America's Dog, a book series as well as a safety program, penned the lyrics to the songs and produced he album, titled "Boomer's Motivational Music for Children and the Family."...Graham said the messages of the 14 songs on the CD encourage and motivate children to become responsible, kind citizens. "When a person hears it one time they're happier," Graham said of the CD, "When a person hears it more than one time it'll change their life."

Chandler Giles agreed the songs provide children with lessons. "It can teach them to support other kids when they need support," the Elkhorn Elementary second-grader said...Four of the CD's songs feature the voices of the Thorn Hill students, including "You Were Born To Win," Carry the Sunshine in your Heart," I can do it Yes Siree" and Dreaming of you."..."I think years from now when you get older you're going to enjoy this a lot more," Graham told the students before presenting them signed copies of the CD and "Boomer's Ambassador" certificate at the party...Boomer America's Dog was started in 2005 and is based in Frankfort.

A local family has joined forces to make a music CD for kids that helps them learn and retain moral values.

Randy Graham says" Boomer's Motivational Music for Children and the Family" will help children develop a good self-image.

"The reason we made the CD is because I've noticed a little bit of lack of respect among the youth. It's designed to elevate the attitude and self-image of children, and it will hopefully teach them a love of family and country." Graham says.

Graham, who has also authored books under the Boomer title such as "Rise and Shine." Stop and Smell the Roses," and the "The Golden Rule Tool," ...The songs are all uplifting, providing a message similar to their titles as "Carry the Sunshine in Your Heart," and You Were Born to Win.'

Bobbie Kitchen,6, listened to the CD and found herself dancing to the beats on the faster songs, and listening intently on the slower songs. Her sister Cayla Kitchen,11, said she can see how the CD, written for children ages 3-8, would be appropriate.

"Songs on the radio have bad words in them, and I don't think little kids should listen to them," Cayla said. "I think this CD would be good for little kids because all the songs, like, teach a lesson that our parents tell us about."

Music has been used with athletes on the field and to lead soldiers into battle," Graham says. " It seems only realistic to use it with children to ensure good lessons."

Graham said when he wrote the album and books, he wanted them to be for the entire family.

"The reason I say family is because it does all begin at home, and the parents have such an impact on kids' lives. These lessons resonate with the child in each of us, and hopefully with each child who hears them," Graham says.

The other performers include Ray and David Graham, Carol Graham-Yunker, Lynne Postel, Kaitlynne Postel, John Howard and Boomer's Ambassador Singers.

Advocate Messenger, December 2004

A dog and some children Randy Graham has known inspired him to write a collection of children's books. Narrated by the dog Boomer, the stories are designed to give children self-esteem and teach them positive lessons….After working years in insurance and telecommunications , Graham 48, decided to launch the book series in May. "

"I want to raise the self-image and attitude of children and teach them a love of family and country," he says....

They launched the series at the recent Kentucky Book Fair in Frankfort..."we sold just under the no. 1 bookseller for the day sold."

Graham thinks that in addition to content, the hardback, full-color books appeal because of the price of $7.99. He says a book of this quality normally would cost $12 to $16.

"We want to keep them in the price range for single parents to buy," he says...

Graham says children can benefit from the positive lessons Boomer gives. " I started noticing that you didn't see the respect you used to." he says... The books are filled with messages such as "Obey your mom and dad " and "There's nothing you can't do." At the start of the first book, " You Were Born to Win," Boomer certifies a child as a Boomer Goodwill Ambassador for agreeing to: Be kind to others, obey parents, say please and thank you, say yes sir and no sir, say yes ma'am and no ma'am, share with others, keep his room neat and help others in need.

The books are geared toward ages 3-8.

"If you get to these children early, they can believe in their own ability to achieve." he says.

The books also have a message for adults.

"Maybe people who didn't learn theses lessons will pick them up as they read to their children."...

The main thing for Graham is that they have a positive influence on children's lives. "We're excited because we feel we are in a need area."

It is more than just an entity, it is a mission in life. We want to raise attitudes and self-image of children…

The books stories are told in the form of poems. "Because happy or said is a game in the mind, and I'll choose to happy all of the time," children are advised in Carry the Sunshine in Your Heart...

"...each book builds on the other. The books are designed for ages 3-8. They really address the child in each of us."
